Former Jail Administrator Sentenced to Prison

WOOD COUNTY — A former East Texas jail administrator has been sentenced to prison. According to KETK, ex-Wood County Jail Captain David McGee has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in helping an inmate escape the Wood County Jail and tampering with government documents. McGee resigned back in February amid an investigation into inappropriate contact between the former administrator and an inmate. During the course of that investigation, McGee was arrested by the Texas Rangers and charged with two counts of tampering with evidence. He was booked into jail and later released on bond.

A few days later, McGee was back in jail for facilitating an escape from a corrections facility and tampering with government records. The inmate McGee was accused of helping escape was identified as Samantha Melvin, of Mineola. In August 2016, Melvin was sentenced to one year behind bars for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, according to Wood County judicial records.
