TYLER – Robert E. Lee High School senior Cody Olson has been named a 2018 National Merit Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. A Drum Major for the Lee band, Cody also plays trombone for the Jazz Ensemble. He holds leadership roles in the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics honors organization. After graduation, he plans to attend Harvard University to begin his pursuit of a career in medicine.

Cody joins around 16,000 students across the nation in receiving Semifinalist honors. These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. About 90% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
