TYLER – The Tyler City Council has awarded contracts for nearly half a million dollars for improvements to Tyler’s water, drainage and sanitary sewer systems. Mayor Martin Heines said all of the projects are part of a $100 million plan to reinvest in Tyler’s infrastructure. At Wednesday’s meeting, the city council awarded to Adams Engineering an $113,616 contract for design and construction of a new culvert at Robertson Avenue. With heavy rainfall bring to the forefront storm water and drainage issues, a Drainage Capital Improvement Plan was developed. Twelve key projects, including Robertson Avenue culvert replacement, were identified.

The city council also awarded a $261,200 contract to Maguire Iron, Inc. to drain, sand and recoat two above ground water storage tanks located at Wells 12 and 17. Over time, the exposure to the water stored in the tanks breaks down the coating. Recoating these tanks is necessary every 15 to 20 years to maintain the quality of our drinking water. The project is slated to be completed by June 2018.

The city council also approved an $88,000 contract to Elledge Engineering Corporation to provide engineering and design services to repair erosion and stabilize crossings where sanitary sewer lines cross creeks. Several of these crossings have experienced erosion over time, putting the sewer line in danger of breaking and causing a discharge of untreated wastewater.

The following five locations will be reviewed for repair:
1. South of Rieck Road, between Donnybrook Avenue and Covey Lane
2. South of Lowe’s, between Donnybrook Avenue and Sutherland Drive
3. East of Broadway Avenue, behind the South Broadway ETMC Clinic
4. East of Hollytree Country Club, between Prestonwood Circle and Turnberry Circle
5. North of West Grande Boulevard, between Spring Creek Drive and Hollytree Drive
