TYLER — Tyler ISD trustees Monday voted to make some changes to the district’s middle schools, including attendance zones — and moved forward with changes in high school attendance zones. The district says the middle school redesign is the kick start for its new Pathfinder Program. KETK reports three different learning models are being offered: comprehensive or traditional, choice, and innovation. Assistant Superintendent Rawly Sanchez says, “It really provides an opportunity for parents and children to really seek within themselves that inner kid and that intelligence that they have, which varies within our school district.” Students will be able to choose unique electives that fit their passions. For example, Caldwell Arts Academy will become a K through 8 magnet campus.

Also among the changes: Dogan Middle School will close and reopen as the Rise Academy program. Most Dogan students will be shifted over to Moore Middle School. That transition won’t happen until next year, but Pathfinder will start in August.

The school board also approved a zone change to John Tyler and Robert E. Lee High Schools. The district says this is to ensure the student populations remain even but also allow room to grow. The new high schools, currently undergoing massive renovations, are expected to be complete by 2021. You can go to https://www.tylerisd.org/ for more details.
