Call it an afternoon matinee of high school hoops that finished without a happy ending for the Robert E. Lee Red Raiders. REL led the Mesquite Horn Jaguars throughout most of the contest, which tipped off at 5:00pm Thursday. But down the stretch, the Red Raiders crisp execution dissipated, as Horn forced some key turnovers which they turned into big baskets and the Jaguars pulled out a 51-47 victory at REL’s Varsity Gymnasium.
Another close loss for Lee drops the Red Raiders to 0-6 in district play with four games remaining. REL is now 14-12 overall on the season. Meanwhile, Horn improves to 16-12 on the year and 4-2 in 11-5A play.
Only four Red Raiders scored in the contest but three of them were in double figures led by Senior post Marquis Mosley and Sophomore forward Taylor Tankersley who tallied 13 points a piece. Junior guard Jarrod Coleman added 12. Jaguars forward Ricky Horn led all scorers with 14 points.
Lee has a short turnaround as it hosts #3-ranked DeSoto Saturday at 2:45pm. In the meantime, Horn welcomes the Longview Lobos to Mesquite on Saturday afternoon.
