LOCKHART (AP) – A grand jury south of Austin has indicted two people in the February shooting of a sheriff’s deputy who was wounded and required several surgeries to treat his injuries. The Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV jointly report that 54-year-old Kimberly Moore and 33-year-old Edwardo Padilla each is charged with deadly conduct with a firearm. The jury recently declined to indict the pair on a more serious charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities have said Caldwell County Deputy Jay Johnson was responding to a theft report at a home when he was shot as he approached. Few details about the shooting have been released, and District Attorney Fred Weber and other law officials declined to comment. Court attorneys for Moore and Padilla did not respond to requests for comment.
