Falcons arrive in Houston ahead of Super Bowl LI

The Falcons have landed in Texas.

The team officially touched down in Houston around 3 p.m. local time Sunday, a week ahead of their Super Bowl LI showdown with the Patriots. Prior to taking off from Atlanta, the city held a send-off rally for the football team, which will play in the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1998 season.

The Falcons’ opponents will be there a day later. New England opted to leave for Monday and had their last home practice on Sunday in Foxborough. The Patriots will also have a rally — at Patriots Place on Monday morning — before taking off for Texas. They are expected to land in Houston about 24 hours after Atlanta.

Both teams will have their first media availability in Houston on Monday night.

For one Patriot, the trip to Houston will be somewhat of a homecoming. Wide receiver Danny Amendola is from the Houston-area, and admitted that getting the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl in his hometown makes it a little more special.

“It does. It does. (I was) born and raised in Houston and played a lot football in Houston,” he said. “It will be special to go play another game there.”
