Dallas Cowboys defensive end Ed “Too Tall” Jones played in Super Bowls X, XII and XIII, winning in Super Bowl XII in 1978.  He joined Bill Coates on Radio Row at Super Bowl XLVI.

Frank brought his All Star cast to Radio Row at Super Bowl XLVI.

One of the most famous Super Bowl commercials aired in the 1979 telecast of Super Bowl XIII in Miami at which the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Dallas Cowboys 35 – 31. A huge factor in that Steelers win, and a huge factor in NFL football generally, was defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene.

While dominating on the field, a commercial in which Greene appeared dominated on the TV screen, The commercial in which Greene reluctantly accepts a Coca-Cola from a young boy and then reciprocates by tossing the boy his jersey, is a television advertising icon.

In Super Bowl XLVI, Greene will reprise that commercial role, this time for Downy Fabric Softener.

With only 70,000 seats available at Lucas Oil Stadium, most people won’t see the game in person. But that doesn’t keep fans from enjoying a Super Bowl. The NFL goes to extraordinary lengths to extend the Super Bowl experience to as many people as possible.

Randy Grimes was a star at Tyler’s Robert E. Lee High School, a star at Baylor University and the starting center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But when his NFL career ended abruptly in 1992, the combination of lingering injuries, depression over ending his career and pain medication sent Randy into a death spiral.

At rock bottom, he sought help for his depression and addiction to prescription pain pills. From that experience, Randy has made it his life’s work to help other athletes deal with the after effects of a career in the brutal world of professional sports.

Randy visited with Bill Coates on Radio Row at Super Bowl XLVI. He talked about his experience and also about lining up against Randy White of the Dallas Cowboys in his first NFL start.

Like the New England Patriots, Curt Schilling has experience in getting ready for a championship. He was instrumental in ending the “Curse of the Bambino” as the Boston Red Sox came back from a three game deficit to win four straight against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series. From there, the Red Sox would go on to a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

Schilling is eligible for induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame in the next ballot.

Now founder and president of 38 Studios, a company that produces video games, Schilling spoke with Bill Coates about the pressures of being in a championship and about 38 Studios’ pending release of a new video game called “Reckoning.”

He was on the losing end at two of the Dallas Cowboys’ last three Super Bowls. Now he is in the NFL Hall of Fame. During his eleven years at the helm of the Buffalo Bills, Levy coached the team to six AFC Eastern Division titles and four consecutive Super Bowl appearances (all of which the Bills lost).

Now retired from the NFL, Levy is an author and has just completed a novel about cheating and intrigue on the way to the Super Bowl. The book is titled “Between the Lies.”

Hosting a Super Bowl pushes the limits of any city of any size. Indianapolis is one of the smaller cities to host a Super Bowl. Mayor Greg Ballard attributes Indy’s success in attracting the Big Game to the city’s creation of an interconnected convention, hotel and stadium complex right in the center of town and…

…perhaps to the success that Peyton Manning has had with the Indianapolis Colts, making it possible to build the new and modern Lucas Oil Stadium, the site of Super Bowl XLVI.

According to Daniel Lawrence Whitney it was a dare. Some friends of his thought he was funny and dared him to go on stage during an open mic and try some of his material. From that, a southern redneck, blue collar comedy career was born. Larry the Cable Guy is now a staple on the concert circuit, cable TV and on behalf of corporate sponsors like Prilosec OTC, for whom he is promoting at Super Bowl XLVI.
