“Mean” Joe Greene does it again.


One of the most famous Super Bowl commercials aired in the 1979 telecast of Super Bowl XIII in Miami at which the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Dallas Cowboys 35 – 31. A huge factor in that Steelers win, and a huge factor in NFL football generally, was defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene.

While dominating on the field, a commercial in which Greene appeared dominated on the TV screen, The commercial in which Greene reluctantly accepts a Coca-Cola from a young boy and then reciprocates by tossing the boy his jersey, is a television advertising icon.

In Super Bowl XLVI, Greene will reprise that commercial role, this time for Downy Fabric Softener.
