“We’re super happy to be here,” he said Sunday night as his NFC champion San Francisco 49ers arrived in the Big Easy for the big game.
“I think this team has the best focus on unity and winning I’ve ever been a part of.”
Considering that Harbaugh was an NFL quarterback for 14 seasons and a successful college coach before joining the 49ers, he knows something about winning.
Under Harbaugh, San Francisco has been to two NFC title games and, now, to its first Super Bowl in 18 years. The Niners (13-4-1) will play Baltimore (13-6), coached by Harbaugh’s older brother, John, in next Sunday’s Super Bowl. (more…)
21-1 — The 49ers have been nearly unbeatable in the playoffs when winning the turnover battle in franchise history. The Ravens, however, have been stingy with the ball while creating takeaways on defense. Baltimore has a plus-5 turnover margin in the playoffs, and quarterback Joe Flacco has yet to throw an interception. (more…)

Gamblers are betting what could be a record amount of money on Super Bowl XLVII. It’s still too early to predict exactly how much money will be riding on the line, come February 3, but experts say the total being wagered in Las Vegas alone could approach the all-time Super Bowl record–$94.9 million—set back in 2006.
“It’s an intriguing match up because the coaches are brothers,” says Jay Kornegay, vice president of Las Vegas’ Superbook, the world’s largest race and sports betting book. “The Ravens, the hottest team, may not have a large fan base, but they certainly add an intriguing element. There’s the fact Ray Lewis is retiring. It’s one of the better teams versus the hottest team.” (more…)
The Grammy-winning R&B singer will perform the national anthem before the NFL championship game on Feb. 3 in New Orleans.
The league said Friday that Keys’ three performances at the Super Bowl will be the most in the event’s history. She sang “America the Beautiful” before the 2005 game, and was part of the pregame show in 2008.
Keys, who turns 32 next week, released her fifth studio album, “Girl on Fire,” late last year. (more…)
The Harbaughs, San Francisco’s Jim and Baltimore’s John, will be the first pair of brothers to coach against each other in the NFL title game.
Quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers and Joe Flacco of the Ravens each will be playing in his first Super Bowl — where success is the ultimate measure of elite QBs.
It’ll be Baltimore’s first crack at a championship in a dozen years, San Francisco’s first in 18. They are a combined 6-0 in Super Bowls (the 49ers own five of those victories), so one club will lose the big game for the first time.
And middle linebacker Ray Lewis, Baltimore’s emotional leader and top tackler, will be playing in the final game of his 17-year career before heading into retirement.
“This is our time,” Lewis pronounced.
For all of those story lines, none is expected to command as much attention as Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh. The game in New Orleans on Feb. 3 was quickly given all manner of nicknames: The Brother Bowl. The Harbaugh Bowl. The Har-Bowl. The Super-Baugh. (more…)
