ODESSA (AP) — The U.S. Marshals Service says a federal detainee grabbed a correctional officer’s gun and killed himself at a West Texas hospital. A statement by the Marshals Service says 26-year-old Andres Rios of Midland was detained at the Ector County Correctional Center in Odessa when he made a failed suicide attempt Sunday. He was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he overpowered a correctional officer on Monday, grabbed the officer’s handgun and shot himself. The release says the incident is under investigation. There was no word on why Rios was under detention.
