roy_baker_smith_co_jailTYLER — A Tyler man was arrested Monday morning after police say he hit an officer in the face. According to KETK, police were called to the scene of a reported disturbance on Summerkamp St. just after 7:00 a.m. According to police reports, four people were arguing in a house. As their argument escalated, a woman in the group reportedly picked up a knife and allegedly threatened the others. Officials say the woman eventually dropped the knife and the group began to fight.

When police arrived, one of the people, Roy Baker, 32, reportedly got into a scuffle with one of the officers. Officers attempted to Taser Baker, but he continued to fight and hit an officer in the face, according to authorities. Police reports say when the officer was hit, police pepper sprayed him and were able to take him into custody. Baker was booked into the Smith County Jail for assault of a public servant and evading and resisting arrest. No other arrests were made on scene, and as of Tuesday afternoon, no additional charges have been pursued. The case is still under investigation.
