So Far, No Arrests Following Gregg County Stabbing Death

LIBERTY CITY � Gregg County Sheriff�s deputies hadn�t made any arrests but said they have identified a so-called person of interest in the Monday morning stabbing death of a Kilgore man. Deputies found Jeremy Dewayne Miller (pictured), 27, suffering from a serious injury to his abdomen when they answered an aggravated assault call about 2 a.m., in the 600 block of McQueen Road, between Kilgore and Sabine.

According to the Longview News-Journal, Gregg County Lt. Kirk Haddix said Miller was found inside a residence and taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m. Gregg County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Arthur Fort said Miller had been stabbed once in the abdomen. The incident occurred inside a recreational vehicle located in the rural area just off FM 1252 between Texas 135 and Texas 42.

Gregg County officials late Monday had not named a suspect in the case, but said they had identified a person who may have information that could aid their investigation. They declined to identify that person.

Gregg County judicial records show Miller had prior arrests for public intoxication, assault family violence and theft. Fort ordered an autopsy at Forensic Medical Center in Tyler. In addition to Gregg County investigators, Kilgore Police detectives and the Texas Ranger assigned to Gregg County are working on the case.
