thumb_matt-schaeffer-1TYLER There have been some changes in plans and other details regarding a pro-life rally today in Austin. Residents of Tyler and surrounding areas in House District 6 will gather there today as part of a statewide effort to support House Bill 2, the omnibus pro-life bill filed in the current special session. The group will gather at the state capitol prior to a 7:00pm pro-life rally on the south steps of the capitol. The rally will feature former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, along with several pro-life leaders from around Texas. You can go to http://www.txvalues.org for more information about the rally.

District 6 Rep. Matt Schaefer (pictured) says hes excited about local residents supporting HB 2 in Austin. I support the right to life and I support safety for women, Schaefer said. This bill is important in addressing both of those concerns. I am pleased that many people from my district will join me in Austin in support of these bills. Local residents are invited to meet beforehand in Schaefers office, Capitol Extension office E1.406. A news release from Schaefers office says signs in support of life will be available to use at the rally, and belongings may also be stored in Schaefers office during the rally.

Schaefer says pro-life attendees are encouraged to wear blue, and to bring snacks and water. People who are able to carpool are encouraged to do so, as parking is expected to be crowded. Parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto located between Trinity and San Jacinto Streets at 12th and 13th streets. Metered parking is available throughout the capitol complex. Other parking garages are located at the Doubletree Hotel, 303 West 15th Street, west of the Capitol; the Bob Bullock State History Museum, 1800 N. Congress, north of the Capitol; and the Wells Fargo parking garage, 400 W 15th St., west of the Capitol.
