Tyler Officer Sandra Nauls-Mast Retires

TYLER — A 32 year veteran with the Tyler police department has retired. The retirement ceremony for Officer Sandra Nauls-Mast was held Tuesday afternoon at the Tyler Police Department. Sandra Nauls-Mast was one of the first female African American Police Officers hired at the Tyler Police Department. She currently serves as the second shift Airport Officer at the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

She began her career as a Patrol Officer in 1981. Later, she served as Minority Community Relations Officer under Tyler Police Chief Larry Robinson. She assisted him in organizing the first Tyler Police Minority Advisory Committee and conducted monthly meetings with its members.

Officer Nauls-Mast helped research and organize the first Tyler Police Department Storefront; she served as a liaison between the Minority community and Tyler Police Department, and assisted in organizing the Pastor’s Network which is now known as Tyler Church and Community. The network is a group of organizations, individuals, churches, and police officers that meet on a quarterly basis and resolve issues that are important to the community.

Also, serving as a Crime Prevention Officer, Officer Nauls-Mast conducted crime prevention programs for adults and children, including Neighborhood Crime Watch, Child Safety programs, and Security Surveys for homes and businesses. She also served as a STAR officer in elementary schools and as the Public Information Officer for the Tyler Police Department. She organized the first National Night Out event in Tyler with Neighborhood Watch captain Australia Hubbard.

After training in Omaha, Nebraska, Officer Nauls-Mast served as a Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Officer in Elementary and Junior High schools in Tyler. She also trained as a Child Safety Seat Inspector, along with other officer and conducted Child Safety Seat Events for the community to demonstrate how to safely install safety seats in their vehicles.

Officer Nauls-Mast also served as a Recruiter and Background Investigator for new applicants.
