KETK reports the warrant was filed on Thursday in Gregg County for Shaun Antonio Thompson, 26, of Longview, for aggravated assault of a public servant. According to court records, Thompson was shot outside the Penwood apartment complex in the 500 block of Scenic Drive in Longview after threatening an officer with “imminent bodily injury by pointing a firearm” at him.

Officers were originally called to the location after reports of a man in the area with a gun. According to information in the arrest warrant, when the officer arrived on scene to investigate, he noticed Thompson holding the gun and “shouted for [him] to drop the weapon”. He reportedly made the request more than one time. Then Thompson “swung towards him with the firearm”. The officer responded to the attack by firing his gun at Thompson, who then fell to the ground and dropped his weapon.

Thompson is still in a Longview hospital undergoing treatment for his gunshot wounds. Gregg County Judicial Records show that Thompson has been arrested four times in the past. The officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is completed. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. Thompson has been arrested four times in the past.
