lyndonhughesmugHENDERSON — A Rusk County man who pleaded guilty to a charge of indecency with a child, a second degree felony, was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in the Texas Department of Corrections. The maximum sentence for a second degree felony is 20 years in TDC. KETK reports that in 2007, Lyndon Hughes was placed on probation for a small amount of a controlled substance. As part of his probation, Hughes attended drug court. Thereafter, allegations were made that Hughes had committed sexual indecency with a child many years previously.

An investigator from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office met Hughes in drug court to interview him. Hughes confessed to the indecency. Additionally, Hughes admitted to the investigator that he had methamphetamine in his wallet, as well as at his home. Thereafter, Hughes absconded and was considered a fugitive until recently, at one time making the East Texas most wanted fugitive list. Officials credit the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Marshals for apprehending Hughes and returning him to East Texas for trial.
