Fatal Panola County Accident

CARTHAGE — A bicyclist has been killed in a Panola County accident. It happened around 5:00 Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 59 about a mile from Carthage. Killed was Tony Weldon Gilliam, 50, of Carthage. He died about half an hour after the accident in a Carthage hospital. The Department of Public Safety says he was hit by a truck driven by Douglas Minton, 82, of Marshall. It appears as if the accident was caused when Minton had a stroke. He was treated first and Panola County Medical Center a later flown to a Longview Hospital.
