Tyler ISD Reminds Parents, Community of Inclement Weather Policies
Posted/updated on: February 12, 2014 at 11:00 amTYLER – During extreme weather conditions, Tyler ISD continues to keep the safety and welfare of students and staff a priority, according to school district officials. The District follows an inclement weather procedure for delaying or canceling school.
Tyler ISD School Cancellation or Delayed Opening Process:
• To determine school closings, the Tyler ISD transportation department monitors weather conditions throughout the evening and morning hours.
• Transportation officials travel roads as early as 4:00 a.m. to perform road checks to include bridges and overpasses.
• A road conditions report is given to the Superintendent and a decision is made to continue with the normal schedule, delay school opening or cancel classes for the day.
• The District communicates the delayed opening or cancellation by 6:15 a.m. through its Blackboard Connect Notification System, the Tyler ISD School Connect mobile app, Tyler ISD website and social media sites, TISD-TV Channel 19, and local media outlets.
Tyler ISD Early Dismissal Process:
• The director of transportation monitors road conditions and weather reports throughout the day before advising the superintendent of current conditions. The superintendent decides if conditions warrant an early dismissal.
• If an early dismissal decision is made, the transportation department requires at least one-hour to recall all drivers before sending them to campuses.
• The District will communicate the early dismissal time through its Blackboard Connect Notification System, the Tyler ISD School Connect mobile app, Tyler ISD website and social media sites, TISD-TV Channel 19, and local media outlets.
