Garland Man Arrested in Gregg County on Drug, Weapon Charges
Posted/updated on: March 7, 2014 at 11:08 amLONGVIEW — A Garland man has been arrested in Gregg County on charges relating to marijuana and weapon possession. At about 4:20 Wednesday afternoon, Gregg County Deputy Tracy Freeman stopped Jonathan Dewayne Anderson, 30, on Interstate 20 for allegedly speeding. Freeman says he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Deputy Freeman located approximately 28 pounds of marijuana with a street value of around $20,000, according to authorities. Two loaded handguns were also reportedly found in the vehicle. Anderson was transported to the Gregg County Jail, charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Judge B. H. Jameson set bonds at $50,000 and $10,000 on the charges.
