At Last — Azaleas
Posted/updated on: March 31, 2014 at 10:57 amTYLER — Hometown folks and visitors were greeted with a welcome sight over the weekend: Tyler’s iconic azaleas have finally begun to bloom. And officials at the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau are keeping their hopes up about further spring blooms during the 55th annual Azalea & Spring Flower Trail. CVB staffers blame the long winter for the flowers’ late appearance. You can view the CVB’s Facebook and VisitTyler Instagram pages to check the progress of the blooms. The Azalea and Spring Flower Trail continues through April 6. Click on http://www.visittyler.com for more information.
The blooms couldn’t have come at a better time, as the area recovered from Friday night’s rain, winds, and hail. Crews stayed busy early in the weekend clearing brush that flew off trees, and there were some traffic signal outages. KETK reports a number of East Texans were left without power, though the situation was continuing to improve during the weekend.
