thumb_sheriff-smithcountyTYLER Three suspects are in custody regarding a burglary of a habitation in the 11000 block of Sycamore Street in western Smith County. Officials say just before 9:45 Monday morning, the Smith County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call of a burglary of a habitation in progress. Smith County patrol deputies were en route to the burglary in progress call after receiving a call of suspicious activity in the area. During that time, the homeowner returned home to find the suspects leaving her residence, authorities say. The suspects reportedly fled in a black pickup truck and passed one of the responding deputies. A pursuit ensued, ending in the 12000 block of Highway 64West.

When the pickup truck stopped, one of the passengers fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, according to reports. Authorities say a second deputy chased the suspect on foot and apprehended him. The first deputy stayed with the vehicle, apprehending the remaining two suspects onsite. Numerous additional Sheriffs Office personnel responded to assist. Items taken from the residence were recovered from the fleeing vehicle, according to officials.

Two males are being held for involvement in the burglary, as well as the female driver of the pickup truck. They were being interviewed by Smith County Sheriffs Office detectives at last report. A 4-year-old passenger in the vehicle has been identified as a relative of the driver and has been released to his mother. It is not known at this time whether there were multiple homes burglarized in the same area in connection with these individuals. The investigation is ongoing, and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
