The schools received superior marks in concert and sight reading events leading to overall Sweepstakes honors, the highest honor UIL awards in music competition. This is the first Sweepstakes award for the John Tyler Orchestra. For Robert E Lee, it marks the fifteenth consecutive year the orchestra has earned Sweepstakes status.

“We are very proud to have Sweepstakes orchestras on both of our Tyler ISD high school campuses,” George Faber, Tyler ISD fine arts director, said. “The dedication of our high school and middle school programs in producing quality students makes the difference. I can’t say enough about all of the orchestra teachers in Tyler ISD.”

Moore MST Magnet School Orchestra also received Sweepstakes honors in the middle school division.
