Sheriff: E. Texans Caught with Meth, Marijuana during Traffic Stop
Posted/updated on: August 15, 2014 at 12:42 pmATHENS — Two East Texans were taken into custody early Tuesday for allegedly manufacturing and distributing drugs in Henderson County. According to Sheriff Ray Nutt, on Tuesday at 2:56 a.m., deputies pulled over a vehicle on US Highway 175 at the intersection of Richardson Road near Athens. KETK reports the driver was identified as Ashley Grooms, 28, of Gun Barrel City, and the passenger as Jerroid Miller, 37. During the stop, authorities searched the vehicle and reportedly found drug paraphernalia, suspected marijuana and suspected meth. While the deputy had the pair pulled over, Miller tried to dump some of the items, according to officials.
The duo was charged with it manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. Miller also faces an additional tampering charge. Miller’s bail was set at $22,000 and Grooms’s at $20,000.
