thumb_TxDotTYLER — The Tyler City Council Wednesday approved a design contract with Adams Engineering to provide design and construction phase services for new sidewalks using the Texas Department of Transportations (TxDOT) Transportation Enhancement Grant Sidewalk Project. The proposal is for the design of five-foot-wide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks. The sidewalk locations were selected using the Pedestrian Master Plan published by the Metropolitan Planning Organization in 2010. The project includes approximately 7.2 miles of sidewalk throughout the City of Tyler that are greatly needed, said City Engineer Carter Delleney.

Locations:

Mockingbird Ln. from S. Peach Ave. to S. Broadway Ave.
Loop 323 NNW from Van Hwy. to W. Erwin St.
Garden Valley Rd. from Bradley Ave. to N. Glenwood Blvd.
W. Gentry Pkwy. from Van Hwy. to N. Broadway Ave.
W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. from N. Palace Ave. to N. Border Ave.
S. Beckham Ave. from E. Houston St. to Troup Hwy.
E. 5th St. from S. Beckham Ave. to S. Clayton Ave.

In August 2013, the city was awarded the Transportation Enhancement Program grant offered through TxDOT to receive a maximum of $1,648,322 in federal funds. The grant funds will allow the city to be reimbursed for 80 percent of the construction cost for the sidewalks.
