Burglary Suspect Arrested; Was Recently Released from Jail

Bowers, AaronTYLER — Smith County authorities have rounded up a suspect who’d recently been released from jail. At approximately 4:30 Monday afternoon, Smith County Sheriffs Office patrol deputies and detectives executed an arrest warrant for Aaron Bowers, 41, of Tyler. Bowers was previously released from the Smith County Jail at approximately 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, after serving time on a criminal trespassing charge.

At approximately 1:48 a.m. on Friday, August 15, Smith County Sheriffs Office Dispatch received a call regarding a burglary of a mobile home located in the 12800 block of Highway 31 West. Patrol deputies responded to the call and took the victims statement. The homeowner said she returned home to find the suspect fleeing her residence with various household items and running into the woods behind her home. The homeowner said she recognized Bowers, as he has frequently been in the neighborhood due to his having relatives living nearby.

Smith County detectives received a tip that Bowers was located at a scrap yard in the 4100 block of Chandler Highway in Tyler. Bowers was arrested without incident. The warrant for burglary of a habitation was issued by Judge Christi Kennedy of the 114th State District Court, who set bond at $150,000. Bowers was booked into the Smith County Jail Monday afternoon.
