fisherdaleupshurcoGILMER — An Upshur County jury Monday sentenced a Houston man to 75 years behind bars in a drug case. According to KETK, District Attorney Billy W. Byrd said Dale Dewayne Fisher was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. On December 30 at about 10:30 p.m. on State Highway 259 south of Diana, a deputy stopped a vehicle with a busted license plate light headed north. The driver, Fisher, was asked to step out of his vehicle and he immediately began to sweat, according to officials. The deputy also stated the man smelled of marijuana.

After Fisher denied a search of the vehicle, authorities checked his vehicle with a K-9 and two positive alerts were made on the driver’s door. Inside, an alert was given on the center console. The deputy found 33 grams of crystal meth, marijuana packaged to sell, capsules to package drugs, cutting utensils, digital scales, and a loaded pistol stolen from Houston. There were also more than 100 pills loaded with meth and other drugs. The street value was determined to be $18,000. A passenger in the vehicle later admitted the duo had also stopped in Nacogdoches and Longview to sell drugs.

At the time of his arrest, Fisher was already on parole in Jefferson County for engaging in organized crime. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2009. He was also found guilty of possession of marijuana in Liberty County. He was placed on two years’ probation.
