TISD Superintendent Discusses “State of District” at Chamber Luncheon

TYLER – Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford delivered a State of the District update Wednesday at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at Willowbrook Country Club. Dr. Crawford spoke on topics such as District successes, the Strategic Plan, fiscal accountability, student achievement, extra and cocurricular activities, community engagement, future plans and projects, upcoming challenges and opportunities, and the construction progress for BOND 2013 projects.“I am so pleased with the accomplishments the District has made this year,” Dr. Crawford said. “We have plans in place to continue this progress while also addressing the areas needing improvement that will help our students continue to succeed.”
The District also partnered with the Tyler Area Business-Education Council to award Tyler Junior College as the 2014 Community Partner of the Year for their collaboration with Bell Elementary Global Communications Academy. According to a TISD news release, the goal of the TJC and Bell Elementary partnership is to bring awareness of the post-secondary educational opportunities to students and to provide an authentic college-going culture at Bell. “Our partnership with Tyler Junior College complements Bell Elementary School’s focus on leadership and providing opportunities for students to develop 21st century skills so that they can serve as leaders in their school, home and community,” Bell Elementary School Principal Dr. Keri Hampton said.
Additionally, Gary Bristow, professional engineer at Estes, McClure & Associations, Inc.; David Hudson, partner at Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP; and Rick Rayford, CEO of Brookshire Grocery Company were named as the District’s inaugural class of Distinguished Alumni by Tyler ISD, the Tyler ISD Foundation and the Tyler Area Business-Education Council.
