Smith County Robbery Suspects Arrested

Smith County Sheriffs DeptTYLER Quick work by the Smith County Sheriffs Department has resulted in the arrest of two robbery suspects. Taken into custody early Friday morning was Jacob Lee Roper, 20, of Tyler and Jacobi TyWan Washington, 21, of Tyler. The two have been charged with aggravated robbery and burglary. Their bonds total $120,000 each.
It began around 11:30 Thursday night with a reported robbery of a convenience store in the 13000 block of Highway 64 East in the Chapel Hill area. Shortly after 12:45 Friday morning, deputies responded to a burglar alarm in the 13000 Block of Highway 64 East. Video footage from the business provided a description of the suspects vehicle.
Then around 1:15 Friday morning, a second armed robbery was reported at a convenience store in the 8600 block of Highway 64 East. The store employee said the suspect threatened to shoot her if she did not give him the money.
Then, just before 2:00am a vehicle matching the suspects vehicle was spotted by a deputy at a convenience store in Tyler, at Highway 69 north and Loop 323. When the driver saw the deputy, he drove away. Deputy Wesley Hicks stopped the vehicle in the 3500 block of West Erwin Street in Tyler. Thats where the suspects were taken into custody.
