Man Arrested in Officer-Involved Shooting

HENDERSON COUNTY � An East Texas man has been arrested on charges of attempted capital murder following a shooting involving Henderson County law officers. Steven Clement Rei was arrested in the 200 block of North Cherokee Shores Drive in Cherokee Shores. Sheriffs� deputies were sent to the area in response to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.

According to authorities, Rei confronted the deputies, who were still outside the residence, with a shotgun, and the deputies were forced to take cover. Rei allegedly fired the shotgun at one of the deputies, who reportedly returned fire, striking Rei. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and was last reported in stable condition. Neither the deputies nor the original caller were injured. When Rei is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Henderson County Jail. The deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.
