thumb_tylercityofTYLER — The Tyler City Council Wednesday approved amendments to the street closure and parade permit process and fees. “The previous street closure and parade permit process used three separate applications for events such as a block party, street closure or parade application,” said City Engineer Carter Delleney. “Often, applications were returned to the incorrect department or were missing vital information such as road names and maps. This new application process should help the applicant get approved much faster.”

The starting point for all parade and street closure applications will now be the Tyler Police Department. The applications were streamlined and consolidated into a single application. City of Tyler staff updated the terms and definitions and re-numbered the sections for easier use, according to officials. A cover page with definitions, permit fees, and other contact information was added. There is a $75 permit fee for street closures and parades, which is subject to be doubled if the application is turned in less than 31 calendar days before the event.

This amendment is the result of a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Project that reviewed City Code Chapter 17, which was led by Holly Doege, the Traffic and Engineering Administrative Assistant. In compliance with City Code Section 17-30.c.; the Traffic Safety Board reviewed this proposed ordinance and voted unanimously to recommend this ordinance change to the City Council on Feb. 5, 2015.
