Two Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting in Nacogdoches

johnsNCSO_1427911396266_56554_ver1.0NACOGDOCHES – Two people were injured Monday night during an officer-involved shooting. According to KETK, the Nacogdoches Police Department reports that at 9:52 p.m. authorities were dispatched to a disturbance call with weapons in the 4700 block of Warr Circle. When an officer made it to the scene, a man was seen reportedly forcing a woman into a vehicle. As the policeman approached the vehicle, a shot rang out and the woman fell to the ground. The suspect, who was holding a .357 magnum, tried to go back inside, but was shot by the officer in his arm and lower body. Both of the injured were taken to a local hospital.

The victim has been identified as Letha Brewer, 30, of Nacogdoches. She sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. The suspect was identified as Vyron Rashad Johns, 32, of Nacogdoches. He is currently in police custody in a local hospital. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As per standard policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation. The officer was not injured in the incident. The shooting investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers, and further information will be released by that agency. The NPD Professional Standards Unit is conducting an internal investigation to insure departmental policies and procedures were followed, according to police.
