According to KETK, the Marshall Police Department says around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, officials located a vehicle believed to be occupied by a wanted felon. Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of George Gregg and Loop 390 on an SUV and arrested Harvey Justin Woodkins, 22, on a warrant for deadly conduct in reference to a shooting that occurred on Sunday at Smith Park in Marshall.

Family and friends gathered Sunday afternoon to celebrate the memory of Adrian Smith at the park. The gathering was winding down around 8:30 p.m. when officers in the neighborhood heard several shots ring out. Police searched the park attempting to locate the shooters and any potential victims. Officers were able to gather evidence, but no shooters or victims were found.

During an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau, detectives received information stating Woodkins was involved in the shooting. Using this information, authorities were able to obtain a felony warrant on Woodkins. Detectives relayed the receipt of the warrant to the Patrol Bureau, both for officer safety and to locate Woodkins.

“Officers of the Marshall Police Department put many hours into making an arrest in this shooting,” Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa stated, “Through the hard work of the officers in the Patrol Bureau, MCAT and the Criminal Investigations Bureau, we were able to name a suspect in the shooting, have a warrant issued and make an arrest quickly. The Marshall Police Department is dedicated to take the criminal element off of the streets and keep Marshall a safe place.” Woodkins has been booked into the Harrison County Jail. His bond has not been set.
