Severe Weather Damage in East Texas

EAST TEXAS — The clean up continues in the wake of widespread damage in East Texas caused by storms that passed through the area Sunday night. Here’s a partial rundown as reported by KETK:
*Ten homes have been damaged when two oil tanks exploded in White Oak. According to KETK, fire officials said the tank caught fire at around 3:00 Monday morning. Three homes at the Lake Harris Mobile Home Park suffered extensive heat damage and others were hit by metal debris. Authorities believe a lightning strike may have sparked the blaze. Firefighters monitored the flames as they burned themselves out off South Lake Harris Road. Martineau Operating Co. has shut down production at the site until further notice. A woman was taken to a local hospital after stepping on glass, but no other injuries were reported. Residents in the area were evacuated during the incident but have since returned to their homes. White Oak, East Mountain, and Clarksville City Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene.

*Fire officials are investigating an early morning house fire near Tyler. According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, a home in the 1500 block of Cooks Crossing caught fire Monday morning. They believe it was caused by a lightning strike.
* Part of Highway 69 north of Alto in Cherokee County was closed due to flooding.
* Farm to Market Road 241 and Highway 69 in Cherokee County was closed due to trees and power lines across the road.
* Numerous trees were down across the southern part of Cherokee County.
* Trees were down along County Road 4248 in Reklaw.
* A Tree falls through roof of house along Treasure Cove in Bullard.
