The Kilgore News Herald reports the local investigation is being spearheaded by the Texas Department of State Health Services, which notified KC officials of a student’s possible infection May 6. This week, the agency reached out to locals who may have come in contact with the individual, encouraging them to seek testing as a precautionary measure.

“The Department of State Health Services is currently investigating an active tuberculosis case in Gregg County,” agency spokesperson Christine Mann confirmed Wednesday. “As part of that investigation, we’re notifying community contacts for testing … probably close to 60 people” including family members and others in varying degrees of contact with the patient. “We are notifying less than 20 individuals at Kilgore College.” The student spent a relatively limited amount of time on campus, KC spokesman Chris Craddock noted.
