marijuana bricksSMITH COUNTY — Kids playing on a phone has led to the seizure of some marijuana. It began when the kids called 911. Because of the call, a deputy was sent to a residence on County Road 481. Two vehicles were parked in front of the house. One vehicle had several kids inside. He was unable to get anyone to come to the door and smelled the odor of burning marijuana. He heard a noise from the back of the house and saw a man crawling out a window and running away. He was unable to catch the man. When he returned to the house, the cars were gone. Looking through a window, he saw one and a half bricks of marijuana on a table inside the house.

After obtaining a search warrant, Smith County narcotics officers searched the house and found the one and a half bricks of marijuana as well as a gallon bag of marijuana and a set of scales used in the distribution and sale of illegal drugs. Also found in a bedroom were six more bricks of marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana recovered was 16 pounds with an approximate value of $8,000. The investigation will continue in an attempt to identify the owner of the marijuana and also the identity of those in the house when the deputy arrived. Smith County detectives will also attempt to identify the children that were observed in the car and work with Child Protective Services to take the necessary steps to safeguard these children.
