Big Sandy Coach Killed in Wreck
Posted/updated on: June 9, 2015 at 2:09 amUPSHUR COUNTY β A coach for Big Sandy ISD has been killed in a two vehicle wreck. Officials said the wreck happened on Highway 155 near Lemon Road Saturday morning. Jeff Blackstone, head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Big Sandy High School, died in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital. The Department of Public Safety is investigating.
According to the Big Sandy ISD website, Blackstone graduated from Harmony High School in 1994 and attended college at Centenary College, West Texas A&M University and UT Tyler. He is survived by his wife and four children.
A Facebook post on the Big Sandy Wildcats/Ladycats said a candlelight vigil will be held Monday. “βIn honor of Jeff Blackstone, Monday night at 8:30 there will be a community wide candlelight vigil at the HS baseball field in Big Sandy. Everyone bring your own candle as we give respect to this wonderful man who brought such a wonderful impact to his family, his friends, his coworkers, and his students.”
