Deena Shelton Has New Post at Letourneau University

Deena SheltonLONGVIEW — LeTourneau University has named Deena Shelton as its new director of Career Services. Shelton will assist LETU students and alumni to identify their vocational calling, find rewarding careers and continue tracking graduate placement and internship placements. She will serve as a liaison with corporate and industry partners. Her work will include counseling students in job search strategies, resume building, interviewing, dressing for success and business etiquette. Originally from Mississippi, Shelton is a first-generation college student who earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from LETU in 2006 before completing her Master of Arts in community counseling at Stephen F. Austin State University. She is currently in a Ph.D. program at Walden University in Minnesota.

Shelton has been a licensed professional counselor for the past five years and also teaches psychology courses as adjunct faculty at LETU. For six years she worked in nonprofit coordination and management before coming to LETU in 2012 as a graduate adviser for LETU’s psychology department. Her counseling background includes foster care/adoptions and working with individuals, families and groups.

Shelton will begin career development with students beginning with their first semester, whether they attend classes in Longview, online or at one of LETU’s educational centers.

“This job is 100 percent in line with my heart for LETU students,” Shelton said. “God has already given our students an identity, and I am honored to help mentor and guide them as they find their holy calling.
