image002TYLER — The City of Tyler announced Wednesday that Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA), a major health care organization, has chosen Tyler over multiple competing locations as the site of its new medical business office support facility. In addition to the already existing 120 jobs currently filled in FMCNA, the facility will add between 300-350 more new jobs to Tyler’s economy, according to a city news release. Mayor Martin Heines says in the release that the addition will be “in line with the goal of the Industry Growth Initiative.” Heines adds that the goal “was to capitalize upon Tyler’s strengths,” including the community’s strong medical industry, to bring well-paying jobs to Tyler.

According to the news release, Fresenius is the world’s largest integrated provider of products and services for people undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure. Officials say its North American operations, based in Waltham, Mass., include more than 2,200 dialysis facilities and employ more than 60,000 people in the U.S. To date, the company has three clinics and a business support center in Tyler. David Cariello, FMCNA vice president of Real Estate and Construction Services, says his company is looking forward to the expanded operation and is grateful to the city and TJC.

Once full approval for the transaction is secured, the company proposes to construct a new 80,000 square feet, two-story office facility on a landscaped site at the northeast corner of SSW Loop 323 and Earl Campbell Parkway. The 9.2 acre site is currently owned by the Tyler Economic Development Council and Tyler Junior College. The start of construction is planned for this fall and is projected to be done by late 2016.

TEDC Chair Lonny Uzzell says the project will have a positive impact on continued development along SSW Loop 323, particularly Earl Campbell Parkway. TEDC has worked on the project since late 2013 and has coordinated meetings and project details with the City of Tyler, Smith County, TJC and TWC. Officials say the $11 million facility will be designed to support 500 employees and can be expanded to 100,000 square feet. According to an impact study conducted by Impact DataSource of Austin, the project is expected to have an estimated $62 million economic impact on Tyler/Smith County in added sales tax revenue and increased residential property values over the first 10 years of operation, according to the news release.
