According to a news release, the county’s Cleanup Committee tries to find ways to re-purpose the desks, chairs, and other office equipment when offices get new furniture. If the old furniture can’t be used by another department and it’s not ready for the trash, Smith County donates the furniture to local nonprofit organizations. On Tuesday, Smith County Commissioners approved the donation of nine desks to Habitat for Humanity to sell at its ReStore. Smith County has donated furniture to Habitat for Humanity three times in the past, as well as to Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
