Longview Man Gets 40 Years for Violent Crime Spree

smythGREGG COUNTY — A Longview man who police said stole two vehicles and injured an elderly woman while stealing a third vehicle pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Wesley Smyth, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault in the June 2014 incident. According to KETK, Smyth crashed a vehicle he stole from Quality Auto Sales on U.S. 80 into a power pole before abandoning it. Smyth then went back to the same used car dealership and stole a second vehicle, this time driving to an area near H.G. Mosley Parkway and Cotton Street, where he damaged that vehicle. He then left that vehicle and began trying to steal a third vehicle by dragging an elderly woman out of her car. The victim sustained non life-threatening injuries. Smyth’s sentence was enhanced by two previous felony convictions.
