Two Killed in Smith County Accident

TYLER – A vehicle-pedestrian accident in Smith County has killed two persons. The accident happened just before 8:45 Tuesday morning on Farm Road 2767 about four miles east of Tyler. Dead at the scene was Luis Morales-Vega, 38, of Tyler, and Randy Smith, Jr., 26, of Kilgore. The two, along with a third person who was not injured, were standing beside a disabled vehicle when they were hit by a pickup driven by Ashley McGill, 30, of Tyler.
The Department of Public Safety reports McGill was headed west at an unsafe speed for the wet conditions. She lost control of the pickup and it hit the victims standing on the side of the road. McGill, who was injured in the crash, was taken to Mother Francis Hospital for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.
