spcaTYLER — The SPCA of East Texas needs more foster homes to take care of homeless puppies and dogs. That’s the word in a news release from the agency, which says the animals need to be rescued from living on the streets or in deplorable living conditions. Officials say the SPCA is currently a foster based adoption program and can only rescue animals as homes come available. Agency President Deborah Tittle-Dobbs says the colder weather has prompted a spike in calls to its hotline.

Dobbs says volunteers are also needed for a variety of placements, and days and hours are flexible. She says the SPCA needs someone who can answer the hotline and clerical support such as data entry, filing, scanning documents, etc. In addition, she says, volunteers are needed who can work with foster dogs in socializing them, delivering dogs for transport, and helping with the SPCA adoption center.

If you are interested in becoming a foster family, you can visit http://www.spcaeasttx.com and fill out a foster application or call 903-596-SPCA /903-596-7722. The SPCA provides its foster families with food and all veterinary care for their foster animals. You can also call the office if you are interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer.

The SPCA of East Texas has helped hundreds of homeless and abused dogs, cats and horses find a permanent, forever family since forming in 2010. The SPCA adoption center is located at 5318 Old Bullard Road in Tyler, and is open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All animals are fully vetted after being rescued from homeless situations. The SPCA of East Texas is seeking private donations to build a regional rescue and adoption center on Grande Boulevard in Tyler.
