East Texas Man Charged with Assaulting Deputy

daltonoates_1454537768827_6878968_ver1.0ANGELINA COUNTY — An East Texas man has been arrested after reportedly fighting with a deputy during his arrest. According to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Dalton Mack Oates, 23, of Lufkin, was taken into custody after he was found hiding under a home. Officials said they received reports of an intoxicated man who had allegedly entered a home and stole a cellphone. A short time later, a deputy was able to locate found an intoxicated Oates with three cellphones. According to KETK, when the deputy tried to arrest the suspect, he began struggling with the deputy and was wrestled to the ground. Oates then ran into a wooded area. Officials eventually found Oates, with the help of Lufkin Police, underneath a hiding underneath a house. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault on a public servant and evading arrest. He is being held in the Angelina County Jail on bonds totaling $17,500.
