U.S. Capitol BldgWASHINGTON – The state’s two U.S. senators are among a group of senators sponsoring a federal Kari’s Law bill. The bill, which amends the Communications Act of 1934, and is co-sponsored by Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, would make dialing 911 easier from multi-line phones. It’s named after Kari Hunt, who was murdered in 2013 by her husband in a Marshall hotel room. The woman’s 9 year old daughter tried to call 911 but didn’t realize she had to dial “9” first to get an outside line. Tyler congressman Louie Gohmert has introduced a similar bill in the U.S. House. Governor Gregg Abbott signed a Kari’s Law for Texas bill last May.
