East Texas Road Closures

SMITH COUNTY — About 20 Smith County Road and Bridge employees worked throughout the night, responding to reports of 32 roads throughout the county that had downed trees, were unpassable because of water over the road or were washed out. All available Road and Bridge employees were asked to report to the yard at about 8:45 p.m. Friday, April 29, and those who worked throughout the night, returned to their homes around 8 a.m. Saturday. Of the 32 roads they reported to, 21 had trees over the road, while the others had high water and/or water damage.

Roads in the Lindale, Whitehouse and Troup areas that remain closed as of 8 a.m. Saturday, April 30, include:

CR 323 (trees)
CR 4219 (house in street)
CR 4104 (between FM 16 and FM 2710 is cleared down to one lane)
CR 4104 (between FM 16 and CR 4105 is completely closed)
CR 2138 (south of Highway 110, trees and flooding)
CR 450 (between CR 445 and FM 1253 (culvert wash out)
CR 294 (between Highway 135 and CR 258 washed out)
CR 294 (between CR 299 and 2201 washed out)
CR 223 (damaged but not closed, cones being used)
CR 121 (water over the road, road ripped in half)

Wood County closures:

Damaged: FM 2422 is closed from US 80 to FM 1804 due to a washout sustained during Friday storms.

Closed due to flooding:

FM 49 from FM 312 to FM 2869
FM 779 from US 69 to SH 37
FM 69 from SH 37 to FM 515
FM 1254 from Loop 564 to FM 778
FM 312 from FM 49 to SH 154
FM 515 from County Road 4250 to County R 4230

TxDOT crews with the Mineola office also assisted the county with clearing debris following the storm.

Van Zandt County crews are monitoring several flooded roads and discouraging travel at these locations:

I-20 service road at Mile Marker 532 (from 3.1 miles east of FM 17 to 3.6 miles east of FM 17), FM 847 from just south of US 80 to 1.5 miles south of US 80, FM 857 from just east of FM 1255 to 2.1 miles west of FM 1253, FM 858 just east of FM 1861 – east of Martins Mill, FM 1256 from north of FM 316 to 1.16 miles east of FM 316, SH 110 from 2 miles south of FM 17 to just north of FM 1255.

GREGG COUNTY — Several roads in Gregg County have been closed due to flooding: SH 135 about 3/4 mile south of US 271 and north of FM 2207 being closed due to flooding. FM 2011 at the Gun Range Bridge has water over the road. Drivers are advised to find another route.
