Steelman Named Fire Chief of the Year
Posted/updated on: May 5, 2016 at 9:38 amGALVESTON — Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman has been named the 2015 Fire Chief of the Year by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA). The award presentation took place May 3 at the annual TFCA Executive Conference in Galveston. According to a city of Longview news release, Steeleman was recognized for his dedicated service and involvement on the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Fighter Advisory Committee. He was also honored for serving as the Northeast Regional Director for TFCA’s Executive Board and serving as a member of the Development Team for TFCA’s Company Officer Symposium, as well as TFCA’s newly developed Texas Fire Service Diversity Committee.
2016 marks Chief Steelman’s 26th year of service to Longview, where he’s involved in various local organizations and committees. He is currently serving as President of the Longview-Greggton Rotary Club and as a member on the Board of Directors for SeeSaw Children’s Place. Steelman is also a board member for the Kilgore College Fire Academy and a community board member for the Sabine Industrial District. He additionally volunteers for Junior Achievement’s “Our Community” program within the Longview ISD Elementary Schools.
