National Bike Month, Bike Safety

LONGVIEW — May is National Bike Month, and a Texas law firm is doing its bit to keep Texas cyclists safe. The folks at the Sloan Law Firm, based in Longview and Houston, take on personal injury cases all the time, so they know all too well what a head injury can do to a person. The firm’s Sally Joswick says it’s trying to make folks aware of the need to wear helmets. According to Joswick, “More than a half a million emergency room visits each year are children from as young as infants through 19 years old, for brain injuries alone. More than 6,000 children die each year from brain injuries.” The firm is a designated Texas Ambassador for the national “Heads in Helmets” campaign. Joswick says Sloan has distributed more than 6,300 free safety helmets in Texas since 2013 at various festivals.
