Fatal I-20 Wreck Claims Two Lives

DPS badgeSMITH COUNTY — Officials have released additional information regarding an accident Wednesday afternoon that left two people dead. According to the Department of Public Safety report, troopers responded just before 4:00 to a two vehicle crash on I-20, three miles east of Lindale. Investigators said a 2013 Subaru was traveling East on the Interstate when the driver failed to slow for construction. The driver ran into the back of the towed trailer.

The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Isaac Clay, 35, Royse City. Also killed in the crash was Sebastian Clay, 8, also of Royse City. Another passenger in the Subaru, a 9 year-old girl, was taken to ETMC-Tyler in stable condition. No other injuries were reported. The driver of the truck towing the trailer was identified as Charles Lopez, 47, Compton, CA.
