Lady Justice-1PANOLA COUNTY – A Panola County grand jury has decided not to indict a state trooper in the shooting death of a Longview man. According to Panola County District Attorney Danny Davidson’s office, the panel no billed trooper Daniel McBride, 27, in the February shooting of Calin Roquemore, 24. He later died at Longview’s Good Shepherd Medical Center.

On February 13th, McBride tried to stop Roquemore’s car for a traffic violation on State Highway 149. Officials say the driver refused to stop and sped away. He later exited his still-running vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Beckville. Authorities say the car traveled a short distance and struck a tree

The investigation showed Roquemore then fled on foot for about 300 yards, eventually went to the ground, and was trying to get up. McBride reports he gave verbal commands to the suspect to show his hands. The trooper said that when the suspect did not comply with his commands, he thought the suspect was going for a gun and, fearing for his life, fired his handgun in reaction to the perceived threat. Investigators say no weapon was found.

The Texas Rangers conducted an investigation and their findings were forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review. Additionally, officials say the investigation will be sent to the FBI’s Dallas Field Office and to the U.S. Department of Justice.
